You
may be entitled to receive a benefit from the Department of Work
and Pensions (DWP) if your child has dyspraxia/attention deficit/dyslexia
etc.
DLA stands for Disability Living Allowance and it is not means
tested, nor is it taxable. There are 2 elements to it - caring
and mobility. Very broadly these relate to the extra care that
is needed in looking after a child with difficulties both indoors
and outdoors.
There are details on the DWP website - go to www.direct.gov.uk and
click on 'Disabled People'. The application form is horrendous – but
you can use a really helpful website whilst completing the form,
run by a charity. The address is www.bhas.org.uk and
they have crucial information you need to read before applying.
